Hello, I'm Gjeryl! I'm Oregon State University graduate with a major graphic design and a minor in merchandising management. I have always been passionate about design and fashion. After reading my first fashion magazine I knew that I wanted a career in the design industry. I was captivated by the layout, typography, photography, the narrative and business behind it all. As a designer it is impossible to see the world in rose-colored glasses, there is always something to improve. I believe design can be applied to every aspect of life and it makes everything more presentable and visually pleasing. One should take the time to make the ordinary into something extraordinary, expressing their personality with every opportunity given.
Why the split-leaf philodendron?
My concept was drawn from a reflection of myself. My family is from the Philippines and I have a strong connection with the country and my cultural background. One fond memory I have is walking around my grandparent’s sugarcane farm and seeing all the tropical plants. The split-leaf philodendron is my favorite tropical plant because of its beautiful shape, vibrant green color, and it’s lustrous texture. Because it reminded me of my trips I decided to use it as my motif.
